JUNE 2007 BLOG

JUNE 2007 BLOG

It’s been another busy month with lots to keep all of us fully occupied – and then some!

One of our maize maze clients was featured in a Sunday Times Travel section in a Summer Top 50 Classic British Treats feature.

Kris and Carlton Le Feuvre run the highly successful aMaizin! Adventure Park on the island of Jersey and were delighted to be included in such a presitigious newspaper. The feature also mentioned the fact that it’s just one of 35 maize mazes we have designed across the UK (and the Channel Islands!) this year.

The recent heavy rain has caused a few headaches for some of the maize maze sites but we’re hoping the long-awaited British summer will eventually arrive and give the crops the final boost they need.  Everyone is feverishly preparing for the summer season, so make sure you find an Adrian Fisher Maize Maze near you and have a great day out.

Earlier this month I was interviewed by a journalist who’s putting together a national newspaper feature on mazes and I’ll keep you posted as to when and where it will appear.  If you listen to Radio 4, on July 6th there is programme called “Mirror Mirror” which includes a short interview with me about mirror mazes.   I have also been interviewed this week for the lifestyle magazine "euromaxx" on DW-TV, Germany’s equivalent of BBC World, for a film report on me and our mazes and labyrinths. .

Strategically, we’re busy building up a series of representatives and agents around the world to help spread the Adrian Fisher Mazes message to everyone.  We are delighted to work with Pramod Krishna, our latest recruit,  who is based in India but has an international reputation within the leisure industry – so watch this space!

Finally Marie and I are preparing to fly out to the Czech Republic to attend the official opening of the new Labyrintharium at Castle Loucen on 07.07.07.  We are looking forward to seeing no less than 10 different mazes of various kinds executed within the beautiful landscape there.

We all love to hear from you so please do post your own comments and feedback or why not join the Adrian Fisher Maze Forum?

New underwater-themed mirror maze opened at the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham

Well our fabulous new underwater-themed mirror maze opened at the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham last month and seems to be going down a storm with visitors.

We arranged for two sets of triplets to get a sneak preview prior to the official opening by a local school and they seemed to be fascinated looking at their own reflections.

Not sure how their mums felt however as each child was reflected six times; transforming their already daunting triplets into 18 bundles of joy!!

I filmed a short walkthrough segment and you can view it on Youtube which gives you a good impression of the overall experience (including moody music). The direct link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5xySAVyOj4

Our team of designers have been also hard at work creating no fewer than 10 mazes for a new attraction called the Labyrintharium at Castle Loucen in the Czech Republic which opens on July 7th 2007 (07.07.07). Today their journalist and publicity team are coming to film an interview with me.

Along with hedge, rope, path, pavement, low box, palisade and tactile mazes there will also be turf and boulder labyrinths and the centrepiece will be a spectacular permanent light maze in the castle’s central courtyard.

This is also the time of year when our maize maze designs start being planted out on the ground. We’re creating more than 50 cornfield mazes both here in the UK, in Europe and, slightly later in the season, in America.

This year’s theme is ‘enchantment’ so keep your eyes peeled for giant wizards, witches and mythical beasts cropping up all over the countryside in a couple of months time!

Mirror Mazes being installed in Japan; blog for www.mazemaker.com

Mirror Mazes being installed in Japan

Jarek Sztandera and David Beeby have now been in Japan for three weeks, installing two new mirror mazes for Tobu Zoo and the Spanish Village Theme Park.  One of the mirror mazes has now been accepted and signed off.  We are very proud of David who only joined us in January, and has already proved himself ready to travel half way round the world to help install mirror mazes.

Marie Fisher is on holiday in Zanzibar swimming with wild dolphins, but is due back in England next week.  She is staying there with son Aidan and  girlfriend Becky.

On Wednesday, I heard a very interesting talk at a business dinner in Bournemouth by Michael Nutley, Editor of New Media Age magazine, about the future of Interactive Media in business. His points included:

  • The internet, mobile data and interactive TV are irreversible trends;  real-time content (to HDTV quality) ON DEMAND will be here to stay.
  • Consumers are 2 years ahead of most companies, and taking control of the medium.
  • A major issue is consumer rejection of “interruptive advertising”.
  • A brand can only grow exponentially if you are prepared to share it, and allow your customer community to participate, share and shape the brand;  notice the success of EBay, MySpace and others.

On Thursdays I attend evening classes at Salisbury College on digital photography.  In my photo presentation this week to my classmates, I presented my experiences last weekend with the lively crew who ring the church bells in Goring and Streatley, in Oxfordshire.  My son Wilfred and I were staying with Andrea and Bill, and Andrea is part of a bell-ringing group, so Wilfred and I joined her on Sunday morning.  Up the tower in Goring, ring the changes, down the tower, off for a welcoming breakfast, then over to Streatley, up the tower, ring the changes, and down again.  It’s great teamwork and a precision task, ringing the bells and finishing just in time for each church service to start!  It was a challenge to take the photos, capturing the non-stop action as it happened, and not knowing quite what was going to happen next – fascinating and great fun!
